500 and 1000 Rupees notes Scrapped; ATM’s closed for two days

Today Prime minister announces that Rs 1000 and 500 Notes will be invalid after midnight . These Rs.500 and 1000 notes will be accepted at hospitals, Petrol Bunk, booking Air Ticket and Train ticket upto 11th November

In a big announcement on Tuesday evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that from midnight tonight, Rs 1000 and Rs 500 would no longer be legal tender.
“You have 50 days (From 10 November to 30 December) to deposit notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 in any bank or post office,” he said.
“Currency notes of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 will be just paper with no value. These notes should be exchanged in banks and post offices within December 30, 2016,” PM reiterated.
“There will be respite for people for the initial 72 hours, government hospitals will accept old Rs 500 and 1000 notes till 11 November midnight. On November 9 and in some places November 10, ATMs will not work. There will be no change in any other form of currency exchange be it cheque, DD, payment via credit or debit cards etc,” he pointed out.
“On November 9, all banks will remain closed for public work,” he further said, adding, “Notes of Rs 2000 and Rs 500 will be circulated soon, RBI has decided to limit the notes with higher value.”
“Those unable to deposit their notes of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 by December 30 for some reason, they can change the notes till March 31, 2017 by furnishing ID proof,” he revealed.

TN Govt increased Maternity Leave from 180 to 270 days

The TN Govt becomes first in India to increase Maternity Leave from 180 days to 270 days for it women employees. The TN Govt Order is reproduced below

ORDER:
In the Government orders first and second read above, orders were issued enhancing the maternity leave from 90 days to 180 days to married women Government servants, with less than two surviving children, which may be spread over from the pre-confinement rest to post-confinement recuperation, with full pay, at the option of the women Government Servant. Accordingly, in the Government Order third read above, Rule 101(a) of the Fundamental Rules was also amended.
2. The Government, after careful consideration, based on the announcement made in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly by the Hon’ble Chief Minister on 01.09.2016, under rule 110 of the Legislative Assembly Rules order that the maternity leave admissible to married women Government Servants with less than two surviving children, which is 6 months (180 days) at present, be enhanced to 9 months (270 days), with full pay, which may be spread over from the pre-confinement rest to post-confinement recuperation, with full pay, at the option of the women Government Servant. The women Government Servants who proceeded on maternity leave, prior to the date of issue of this order and continue to be on that leave as of now, are also eligible for availing maternity leave upto 9 months (270 days), in total.
3. Necessary amendments to the Fundamental Rules will be issued separately.
